As we are approaching the Jewish New Year and the High Holy Day period, the Days of Awe, it is imperative that we search for those whom we have wronged to ask forgiveness. As a matter of fact, the month prior to the High Holy Day period gives us the opportunity for introspection and reflection – Have we done what we need to do? Are we learning from our mistakes in the past and doing better?
“Forgiveness. Can you imagine?”
“Forgiveness. Can you imagine?”
These two lines come from the musical, Hamilton. When Alexander Hamilton admits to an affair, his wife, Eliza, understandably gets angry and pushes him away. However, with the death of their son, Philip, something happens to the two of them and Eliza is actually able to forgive Alexander. He begs her for forgiveness, and she forgives. So, which was harder – Alexander asking for forgiveness or Eliza granting it?
